A family-run produce supplier has raised a significant amount of money for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland through the opening of their sunflower field.
Loughgall-based Gilfresh Produce has been run by the Gilpin Family since 1965 – celebrating their 60th anniversary in June – and was started by Thomas Gilpin. It is now under the management of Thomas’ son William Gilpin.
Now firmly established as the country’s leading vegetable providers, this summer, Gilfresh created a special project to bring some joy and raise vital funds for a life-saving charity.
George and Tommy’s Sunflower Field – named after William’s two sons – has been flourishing over the last few months, with the two boys keeping a watchful eye on the progress of the sunflower field from planting to blooming – and the field was finally ready to welcome visitors last week!
It opened to the public from Monday, August 18 to Monday, August 25, and saw thousands of visitors travelling from near and far to take a walk through the sunflower trail, pick flowers and capture a picture.
Admission to the sunflower field was free for visitors with donation boxes for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland located at the front entrance for guests who wished to donate to the cause.
With the field now closed, Gilfresh Produce have announced that George and Tommy’s Sunflower Field raised an incredible £12,500 for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland in the opening week.
“We are delighted to say that we have raised just over £12,500 for this fantastic, life-saving service in our community.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to every single person who came through the gates over the last week to support the event .We were overwhelmed by the support shown from the local community, and far beyond.”
