‘Lowlife thugs’ involved in spate of weekend burglaries across Co. Armagh

A spike in burglaries was reported in the Armagh city and south Armagh areas over the weekend.

It comes as the community continues to reel from the fallout of the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic.

Police say there were reports of break-ins in the Newry, south Armagh, and Armagh city area.

At least three other burglaries were also reported on Sunday evening, two between Banbridge and Rathfriland, with a third occurring at the Tyrone Ditches in Poyntzpass.

UUP Alderman, Jim Speers branded the behaviour of these “lowlife thugs” as “scandalous”.

Speaking to Armagh I, he said: “It’s absolutely shocking to hear of these incidents at this time; its scandalous anytime but at a time like this, when people are on the edge anyway, it is a difficult time for the whole of society.”

The PSNI said that there had been several burglaries reported on Sunday within the Newry, South Armagh and Armagh areas.

Appealing for information, it is believed that a dark metallic blue Volkwagen Golf, with a registration plate similar to KS17 OVB or KZB was involved.
