Work on the £319,000 resurfacing scheme is due to start on Monday

Work starts on Monday on a major improvement scheme in Armagh city centre.

The £319,000 resurfacing will centre on Lonsdale Road.

The resurfacing and ancillary work will extend a distance of approximately 900 metres from the Moy Road Roundabout to the Mall Roundabout at the Courthouse junction.

The scheme includes resurfacing of the carriageway and upgrading of road drainage.

Alterations to the road markings at the Courthouse roundabout will also improve road safety, according to the Department of Infrastructure.

Due to the nature of the scheme it will be necessary to operate various traffic management arrangements.

From Monday through until Friday 14 August, there will be daily weekday lane closures under traffic signal control (Monday – Friday) between the hours of 7am and 7pm.

From Monday 3 August to Saturday 15 August there will be overnight full road closures from 7pm until 7am.

And between Sunday 2 August and Sunday 9 August there will be a 24 hour full closures from 7am until 7am

A DfI spokesperson said: “During the full road closures a diversion will be in place with traffic being diverted via the Moy Road, Armagh Road, College Lands Road, Summerisland Road, Ardress Road, Moy Road, Dungannon Road, Charles Street, Corcrain Road, A3 Northway, Armagh Road, Dobbin Road, Portadown Road and College Hill Road.

“The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public.

“Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closure.

Completion of the work by 15 August is dependent on favourable weather conditions however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
