Major resurfacing works are due to be carried out on the main Armagh-Keady Road – including safety improvements at Girvan’s Bridge – in the coming weeks.
The works will cover the stretch from Beech Hill to the Dundrum Road junction and will include surfacing enhancements at a well-known accident black spot, as well as new signage and road markings.
Commenting on the investment, Councillor O’Hanlon said: “This is a much-needed and long-overdue investment in one of our busiest trunk roads. There has been no significant work carried out on this stretch in years, and I know from speaking to local residents and road users that improvements are badly needed.
“The resurfacing, along with the additional safety measures, will make a real difference for all who travel this route.
“This is something I have been plaguing the Divisional and Local Rods Office for over a long period of time and am pleased to have received confirmation this week that works will now proceed.
“I have asked that when these works are being carried out that the Department take the opportunity to carry out whatever works are necessary to carry out improvements to the ‘dip’ in the road at Farmacaffley Racecourse. This is a dangerous defect and needs repaired at the earliest opportunity.”
Councillor O’Hanlon paid thanks to the Divisional Roads Manager and his team for “listening to me, or indeed putting up with my complaints about this section of road and I know every effort will be made to ensure the works are carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible”.
“I do appreciate there will be disruption and diversions in place whilst the works take place, however I hope this short inconvenience will be worth it when the works are complete.”
