A major resurfacing scheme on the Monaghan Road, Armagh, is due to start early in the New Year.
The scheme will focus on a stretch of carriageway from just past Milford.
The work will take several weeks to complete and see resurfacing carried out as far as the junction with Farnaloy Road, Madden.
It will also involve some preparatory work from next week.
Confirmation of the work has been given by the Department for Infrastructure, and the news has been welcomed by local SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon.
He said: “This is a significant scheme and is very much welcome.
“Anyone who travels the route regularly will notice how the road surface has deteriorated in recent years.
“Enabling works will commence along the route, beginning on Monday, December 10.
“This will mean a temporary speed limit along the route and traffic controls will be in place. This will be to facilitate improvements to the drainage infrastructure along the road.”
Councillor O’Hanlon said he appreciated this would cause some disruption but he appealed for patience.
“This is much needed work and now that the finance has been secured, it’s full steam ahead,” he added.
“I would like to acknowledge the team in the Department of Infrastructure for their persistence on this case and look forward to seeing the scheme complete in the coming months.”
