Mall Camino raises over £5,000 for Irish Language and Culture in Armagh

On the run up to the event, the centre launched a GoFundMe page with a target of £25,000 to coincide with their 25 laps of the Mall

A fundraising Camino on the Mall has raised over £5,000 for the “future of Irish Language and Culture in Armagh“.

The mammoth trek of 25 laps of Armagh’s famous Mall took place on a fine, dry day on Saturday August 23.

Walkers turned out in their droves and the city-centre green became awash with white and blue Camino-emblazoned t-shirts, in the colours of the organisation set to benefit from the funds, Aonach Mhacha.

The fundraiser was organised by Armagh’s Culturlann, Aonach Mhacha with a focus on promoting the Irish language and culture in the heart of Armagh.

Since opening its doors in 2021, the Shambles-based centre have offered Irish language classes for all levels, from beginners to fluent speakers, cultural events that celebrate Irish music, dance, and storytelling, and support community initiatives that promote Irish in everyday life.

To satiate those hungry bellies, Aonach Mhacha also put on an array of food… and music to help boost the community spirit!

On the run up to the event, the centre launched a GoFundMe page with a target of £25,000 to coincide with their 25 laps of the Mall.

So far, the total is sitting at over £5,000 with cash donations still to be counted and added to the overall pot.

More photos, video and information for the event can be found via Aonach Mhacha’s Facebook page here.
