A man is to appear before Newry Crown Court next month charged with an arson attack in Armagh.
Sean McGonnell, of no fixed abode, appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry – the legal process of sending the case to a higher court.
The 31-year-old faces two charges of arson endangering life with intent and arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered.
The charges related to an alleged incident on Barrack Hill on August 11, 2023.
Appearing via videolink from Magilligan Prison, McGonnell made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
The defence made no contrary submissions.
District Judge Anne Marshall, satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer, set an arraignment date for June 17.
McGonnell was remanded back into custody until then.
