A Glenanne man who is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to another male will face Crown Court proceedings next month.
The 25-year-old appeared at Armagh Magistrates’, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.
Matthew Knox, of Mowhan Road, is charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.
As these charges were read, it was heard that both are alleged to have occurred on July 11.
The defendant is accused of unlawfully and maliciously causing grievous bodily harm to a named male.
He is also alleged to have been in possession of a bottle, with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.
Appearing in court, Knox made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister Patrick Taggart made no contrary submissions.
Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
The defendant was released to appear before Newry Crown Court on February 16 for arraignment.
