A man accused of falsely imprisoning a woman and threatening to kill her is to face Crown Court proceedings next month.
Christy Anandabhavanam (44), of Cathedral Road, Armagh appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.
He is charged with false imprisonment, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, threats to kill and common assault.
While the facts of the case were not outlined the court heard that they are alleged to have occurred on October 17 last year.
The charges all relate to the same woman and the false imprisonment and possession of offensive weapon charges are aggravated by reason of involving alleged domestic abuse.
The prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence counsel made no contrary submissions.
District Judge Francis Rafferty, satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer, released the defendant on his own bail of £500 and adjourned the case for the accused to appear at Craigavon Crown Court for arraignment on March 12.
