A man accused of indecently assaulting a female during the 1990’s to face Crown Court proceedings next month.
The 42-year-old appeared at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry on Tuesday, for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.
Richard Alexander McIntyre, of Lissize Park in Rathfriland, is charged with one count of indecent assault on a female.
As the charges were read, it was heard that the defendant is alleged to committed the offence on a date unknown, between April 14, of 1994, and April 14, of 1995.
Appearing in court, McIntyre made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister Sean Devine made no contrary submissions.
Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
The defendant was released on continuing bail to appear before Newry Crown Court on May 18 for arraignment.
