A 55-year-old man arrested in connection with a bomb attack in which three policemen and a nun died has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

He was arrested in Armagh this morning by detectives from PSNI Legacy Investigation Branch.

The device exploded on July 24, 1990.

RUC Constable William Hanson, from Armagh, Reserve Constable Joshua Willis, from Caledon, and Reserve Constable David Sterrit, from Markethill, and Sister Catherine Dunne, were killed when the landmine was detonated from a culvert on the Killylea Road.

Another woman travelling with Sister Dunne was also seriously injured in the blast.

The man was detained on suspicion of a number of offences including the murder of the three officers and Sr Dunne.

He was taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station in Belfast for questioning.

Tonight a PSNI spokesperson confirmed he has now “been released pending a report to the PPS”.
