A man who handed police both fake Romanian and Bulgarian licences during stops which were weeks apart must wait to learn his fate.

The deputy district judge commented: “These are serious offences, especially the handing of fraudulent documents to police.”

Pasho Kirilov, 36, of The Square, Moy, pleaded guilty to no driving licence, using a vehicle without insurance, making a false declaration to obtain insurance, two counts of fraudulently using a certificate of insurance and two counts of possessing a false driving licence at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Prosecution outlined that at January 10, at 5.45am, police stopped the defendant driving a Nissan Primera on the Dungannon Road, Moy.

Kirilov handed the officers a Romanian licence which was immediately detected as being false and he was subsequently arrested.

The defendant admitted to police that he had obtained his insurance policy using this fraudulent document.

Checks showed that Kirilov had previously been stopped on December 24 in a different vehicle and in relation to that attended Armagh station on a false Bulgarian licence.

He was interviewed on January 14 and accepted the stops and making a false declaration to obtain insurance.

Kirilov stated he had bought the licence from someone he refused to name and admitted he had never sat a driving test.

Deputy District Judge Austin Kennedy commented: “These are serious offences, especially the handing of fraudulent documents to police. I am going to need a report.”

The case was adjourned until April 7 for sentencing.
