A man wanted in the Republic of Ireland for a serious assault offence has been arrested in Armagh City.
The 28-year-old was arrested on Thursday evening (July 4) to stand trial for the offence, which is alleged to have occurred in Monaghan town in April 2019.
He was detained on an Irish extradition warrant and is due to appear before Laganside Extradition Court today (Friday).
Sergeant Davey from the International Policing Unit said: “This arrest is another example of how our Local Policing Teams are able to identify and arrest those wanted internationally.
“We continue to work closely with An Garda Siochana to locate fugitives and bring them before the extradition courts.
“Our message is clear, Northern Ireland is not a safe haven for any wanted persons trying to avoid arrest and the consequences of their previous actions. We will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime.”
