A man who stole milk and food from a convent in Armagh must wait until June to learn his fate.
The sentencing of the 49-year-old was deferred in order to allow him to continue to receive help for his addiction problems.
Philip James McParland, 49, of Springfield Road, Belfast pleaded guilty to burglary and criminal damage at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Court heard that the defendant had stolen milk and food from the Missionaries Of Charity convent building in Armagh.
Defence barrister Conor Lunny informed the court that another matter before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court had been deferred as McParland continued to receive help for addiction problems at Springwell House in Belfast.
He stated that the defendant was abstinent from alcohol and would be sentenced on May 29 for that offence.
Deputy District Judge Peter King said: “Now you have pleaded guilty, what I intend to do is defer sentencing in this case.
“If you are able to avoid reoffending and remain abstinent from drink the court will consider a non-custodial sentence.”
The case will return to court on June 4 for sentencing when an updated pre-sentence report will be present.
