A huge new retail store and petrol filling station is being planned for Drumadd, Armagh I can exclusively reveal.
The multi-million pound development on the edge of Armagh city – understood to be for a ‘big name’ retailer – would provide a significant jobs boost for the area.
The proposal falls within the ‘major’ category of development and, as such, a pre-application notification has been lodged with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.
The earmarked location is a large and expansive site – close to half a million square feet – stretching back from the corner of Drumadd Road and Portadown Road.
The exact location is listed as being at “2 Drumadd Road, including adjoining land to south and south-east and adjacent roadway and roundabout, between Portadown Road/College Hill/Mullinure Lane/Drumadd Road to north and west, Armagh”.
According to the pre-application notice on behalf of the Enagh Group, the new development would boast a floorspace of close to 38,500 sq ft.
And to put that in perspective, that is even bigger than the Home Bargains store in the city. It stretched to 31,000 sq ft, opening in August 2017 in a unit originally being built for Tesco.
The plans also incorporate a considerable number of car parking spaces.
In addition, the scheme will require a revised road layout and upgrades to the A3 Portadown Road / College Hill roundabout, to provide a new access and siteworks.
Full details are to be unveiled at a public consultation event, due to take place in the Armagh City Hotel in late January 2024.
The public consultation event details will be advertised in the local press and neighbours living close to the new development will be written to in advance advising them of the consultation details. There will also be the opportunity to view the consultation plans online and submit feedback too.
