A member of the public is recovering following a vicious dog attack in county Armagh today (Thursday).
The person, who wished not to be named, required hospital treatment and a vaccine but is understood to be recovering well following the ordeal.
Councillor Gareth Wilson, who spoke to the victim, has urged owners to be more aware of their pets in the lead up to summer.
“In my view it is not acceptable for a dog owner to permit this to happen,” he said.
“A dog owner is under law ultimately responsible for their dog and the dog should not pose a knowing danger to an innocent member of the public.
“I have spoken to the person who was bitten and I am pleased to learn they are thankfully recovering well from this frightening and painful ordeal. I am following this matter up with our Council Dog Control team.”
Council look set to take a more robust action with introduction of new by-laws banning dog owners from taking their pet into children’s play parks across the borough.
This will come into effect on June 1.
In all, 94 play areas across the borough would be covered under the new order.
The majority of these – 38 – are within the former Craigavon Council area, with 30 in the old Banbridge Council area and 24 under Armagh City and District.
