A fundraising memory walk is to be held in the serene grounds of Armagh’s Palace Demesne this month, to the benefit of Alzheimer’s Society.
The walk is being organised by Armagh’s and Parkrun enthusiast, Bernie O’Connor, in memory of her dear mum Teresa ‘Teasie’ Maguire.
Teasie passed away on May 27, 2026 and like so many had spent the last years of her life struggling with the effects of Alzheimer’s.
And while it is a cruel disease, Bernie remains thankful that her mum’s inherent benevolent character remained steadfast until the end.
Said Bernie: “Alzheimer’s didn’t take our mum completely, she had such a caring/loving nature and that never left her.
“We will always have her in our hearts and if we were anything like her, our hearts would be so big.
“Mum had such a big impact on us all as a family and everyone who knew her she has left such a void.”
A JustGiving page launched to support the effort has already accumulated over £800 for the charity.
The walk will be held on the day of Teasie’s Month’s Mind Mass, exactly four weeks on from her passing on June 28 at 1pm.
Participants can meet in the carpark at the Palace grounds where the walk will take in one lap (or maybe more!) of the circuit.
“Everyone would be welcome to join us in raising awareness as Alzheimer’s effects so many families. We would love to raise as much as possible as we know personally how terrible this disease is and the effect it has on all,” said Bernie.
She said this is not “just to remember her but also to know she has left us all a little bit of her and we want to continue her ways in wanting to help others in any way we can and in doing so help support others effected by this terrible disease”.
With over 45 years’ experience Alzheimer’s Society are uniquely placed to provide support to those who need it, fund ground-breaking research and campaign to make dementia a priority.
Every penny raised through the memory walk will go towards helping further this vital work and much-needed support.
