A lock which had been stolen from security gates at Navan Street in Armagh has been returned.
The thief has had a change of heart and brought the property back just hours after Armagh I had reported it missing and made an appeal to bring it back.
On Friday morning, we told how residents in the Armagh street had been left feeling “vulnerable to criminals” after the lock was taken.
Bought at a cost of £300 by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, the lock brings give peace of mind to neighbours – among them elderly residents – from crime and anti-social behaviour.
It was taken some time during the past week.
We highlighted the issue on Saturday morning and are glad to report an update to the situation.
One resident told us: “Your article on Armagh I has had a positive and good ending.
“The lock has now mysteriously reappeared on the gate in question and it is staying locked to safeguard the elderly and vulnerable in the street.
“Those that conspired to steal the lock and cause distress to our neighbours have had the tables turned on them – whoever they may be – and they will be reported for their deed.
“We the residents of Navan Street offer to you and your media group our sincere thanks and appreciation for what you have done.
“You have made a bad situation better and helped to protect our homes from anti-social activity and made right the act of theft. Our thanks and regards to you.”
