Orchard Club for Visually Impaired celebrate £6,700 lottery grant with Christmas Lunch

The Orchard Club for Visually Impaired Persons is ‘delighted to announce’ that it has been successful in its application to the National Lottery for financial assistance.

The club, which provides a range of social activities for people with visual impairment, recently learned that they will receive a total £6700 from National Lottery Awards Community Fund.

Based at the Community Centre on Dobbin Street, Armagh the club meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month, apart from July and August.

Members of the Orchard Club are all visually impaired with diagnosed eye conditions and varying degrees of sight loss. All are from Armagh and the surrounding area.

The aim of the club is to give people with similar eye conditions the opportunity to meet and help to build their confidence by socialising at meetings and taking part in outings, where their carers are also invited to attend.

Money from the National Lottery Awards for All grant will be used to help fund a range of trips and activities for members to improve their connection to the wider community and increase confidence and learning.

To celebrate, approximately 26 members came together, with their carers, to enjoy a Christmas lunch at Armagh City Hotel on one of their typical Tuesday meet-ups.

Chair for the Orchard Club, Ann Curran said: “The club would like to thank the National Lottery for their generous grant and look forward to a busy year of activities and outings.

“Through this lottery funding we are looking forward to a mystery tour in May, a day trip to Newcastle ending with an evening meal in The Harbour Bar Annalong, a shopping trip in November and a visit to the Market Place.”
