Armagh city centre looks set to benefit from an investment of over £6 million to restore and revitalise buildings and bring them back into productive use.
The Heritage Lottery Fund has now offered a further £1.9 million to see the work through.
The funding is under the Townscape Heritage initiative and follows an earlier award.
Heritage Lottery agreed last Tuesday to make a second cash payout.
And at a meeting of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council tonight (Monday), the recommendation to councillors will be that the offer is accepted.
If this is supported, this latest grant would – when taking into consideration match funding from council and private sector contributions – see a total investment in Armagh of £6.3 million.
The stage two bid was submitted earlier this year and was considered by the Lottery Fund’s Northern Ireland Committee on Tuesday.
Up to 25 key properties in Armagh have now been identified for inclusion in the bid from within the Conservation Area.
This covers Barrack Street, Scotch Street, Upper English Street, Market Square, Russell Street and the Mall.
A letter of offer from HLF will be forthcoming “in due course”, council has been told.
The match funding from council has already been included in its capital plan.
