The latest phase of the Deanery Demesne housing development in Armagh has been approved by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.
Chapter 3 of the development was given the go-ahead at Tuesday’s planning committee meeting, and work is set to begin at the end of this year.
The application, submitted in October 2021, is for 72 new houses. They will consist of three and four-bedroom homes to include townhouse, semi-detached and detached.
Ryan McAtavey, principal architect at McAtavey Architects, who have been appointed to deliver the remaining phases of the development, outlined the details.
He said: “Phase 3 will infill the development area between the recently constructed dwellings in Phases 1 and 2, and the existing dwellings at Sperrin Park.
“The overarching design concept was to provide an attractive, high-quality residential development that maximises privacy for existing and future residents.
“This phase of the development introduces two new house types; a new four-bed detached dwelling and a three-bed townhouse, each of which have been designed in the Georgian style of architecture that Armagh is synonymous with.
“A large mix of dwellings are arranged around a central ‘village green’, comprising a children’s play area and high-quality landscaping throughout.”
Previous phases of the development have been hugely popular, with Hannath Estate Agents in Portadown seeing buyers camp out overnight to secure their preferred site.

The first stage of the development consisted of 55 homes – 50 semi-detached and five detached – and went on sale in August 2019.
Given the demand, a planning application for the second phase – a total of 53 properties – was submitted sooner than originally expected. They went on sale in the summer of 2020.
