Fears over the “dangerously high” waters of the River Bann have prompted police to clear Solitude Park in Banbridge.

Flood waters have wreaked havoc across County Armagh and now police are fearing for the banks of the River Bann, particularly in Banbridge.

A police spokesperson said they are currently clearing the public from the area.

“The level of the River Bann has risen dangerously high and we would ask any parents or guardians who may have children in the park to make sure they leave immediately,” said the spokesperson.

The Bann in Portadown has also reached levels not seen for a generation or more, with the People’s Park effectively out of bounds.

Meanwhile, a yellow weather warning will come into play from 9pm tonight, bringing with it more heavy rain. It will remain until 9am on Wednesday.

As Storm Ciaran approaches the UK on Thursday, the southern half of Co Armagh and Down – which includes Newry – will be hit again by heavy rain.

That particular weather warning will remain in place for the entirety of Thursday, leaving little to no respite for residents and business in Newry.
