Police warning after widespread reports of suspicious cold-caller asking to buy motorhomes

'These calls were unwanted and none of the people approached had advertised a motorhome for sale'

Motorhome owners are being asked to be vigilant after reports of a suspicious caller enquiring about their properties.

Police say that while no crime has come to light, several reports had been lodged at various locations in South Area on Tuesday including Armagh, Lurgan, Lisnaskea, Downpatrick, Aughnacloy and Lisbellaw.

Superintendent Alywin Barton said: “On each occasion it was reported that a male had called to people’s homes to enquire if they would sell him their motorhomes.

“These calls were unwanted and none of the people approached had advertised a motorhome for sale.

“Whilst at this time no crimes have been reported, a number of those who reported the matter to police have been left feeling very concerned as to possible motives of the man who called to their homes.

“We are currently conducting a number of enquiries into these incidents and I would ask anyone who is approached in a similar manner to contact police. The number to call is 101.”

Superintendent Barton added, “The suspicious nature of these reports is a timely reminder to us all to ensure we make every possible effort to safeguard our property and prevent ourselves becoming a victim of crime.”
