The Portadown Road area of Armagh could be in line for further housing development.
A major site – one of the last zoned for housing in Armagh – has gone on the market.
The 6.75 acre site lies to the left of the main Portadown Road, leaving the city, and to the rear of Drumann Heights.
Despite previously applications for housing on the prime parcel of land, it remains undeveloped.
But today (Tuesday), it has been advertised for sale – with offers invited in excess of £750,000.
The Portadown Road is one of the most densely populated areas of Armagh and, according to Lisney, in charge of selling the site, the land in question occupies a “prominent roadside location”.
The agent adds: “The immediate area is regarded as a desirable edge of city residential location and is dominated by well-established residential housing, which is largely comprised in modern, medium density developments.”
Plans have been submitted for housing on this site over the years. The most recent – for a mix of detached, semi-detached and apartments – were withdrawn.
But previous planning approval had been granted in 2004 and the area is described as “ripe for residential development”.
It is expected that there will be great interest shown.
