A 25-year-old man charged with a catalogue of offences – including an assault on his mother – has been freed on bail to the Simon Community hostel in Linenhall Street in Armagh.
The PSNI did not object to his release under strict conditions imposed by a court sitting in Derry/Londonderry.
Jonathan Michael Simpson – who had previously been shot in both thighs in a paramilitary style attack – had two addresses on the charge sheets, at Glendara and Belfast.
Having previously been threatened by republican paramilitaries, he is currently on remand at Maghaberry on four separate sets of charges, the first of these dating back to last July.
The charges against Simpson including motoring offences, drink driving, and possessing a Class B drug, namely cannabis.
He is charged too with assaulting his mother on November 5 last, and then attempting to pervert the course of justice by encouraging her to retract her complaint the next day.
Police raised no objection to Simpson being released on his own bail of £750, to an address at the Simon Community hostel in Armagh.
Additionally, he is not allowed to drive or drink alcohol. He must observe a curfew between 8pm and 8am and will wear an electronic tag.
Simpson is also not allowed to make any contact with his mother and has been told that the only time he is allowed to return to Derry/Londonderry is to attend court hearings, leaving immediately afterwards by the “most direct route”.
