The Queen’s visit to Armagh tomorrow (Thursday) has been cancelled on medical advice.
Queen Elizabeth had been due to attend the Service of Reconciliation and Hope in St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral to mark the formation of Northern Ireland.
However, a statement released by Buckingham Palace today said Her Majesty had “reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days”.
A spokesperson for the palace said: “Her Majesty is in good spirits and is disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland, where she had been due to undertake a series of engagements today and tomorrow.
“The Queen sends her warmest good wishes to the people of Northern Ireland, and looks forward to visiting in the future.”
It is understood the Queen’s illness is not Covid-related.
The Guardian has reported that the 95-year-old monarch is resting at Windsor Castle and is still expected to attend events linked to a climate change conference in Glasgow at the end of the month.
The service is still expected to be attended by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
