Lislooney Presbyterian Church Hall, Tynan is set to become the site of a post-Christmas 24 hour badminton-a-thon in the hopes of netting a handsome sum for charity.
The hall has long been home to Lislooney Badminton Club – the organisers behind the challenge – which they hope will raise vital funds for Southern Area Hospice Services.
The concept is simple, 24 hours of continuous play. Starting at 12 noon on Thursday, December 28, two players from Lislooney Club will step on to the court, where they will remain present for the duration.
As other players enter, the two will benefit from some light relief. However, they will remain courtside and ready to serve until their time ends at 12 noon on Friday, December 29.
Members of Lislooney Club have extended the invitation to several other badminton clubs and are welcoming the public – even those who have never before picked up a racket – to attend and participate. All equipment will be available, so no need to come prepared.
Spectators and players are also invited to enjoy some light refreshments. Several club members have tasked themselves with laying on pizza on Thursday afternoon and a hearty breakfast on Friday morning.
A spokesperson for the club commented: “Many of us have experienced the invaluable work and care of the Southern Area Hospice, either personally or in our community, and we would like to give something back to them to support and assist with the continuation of this service.
“We would appreciate greatly any contribution, no matter what amount!”
