An Armagh city resident has said “people are being put through hell” as a result of increased anti-social behaviour in their area.
The resident sent a letter to the Armagh I office detailing their experience in a plea for support.
They outlined the main areas of concern as being the Shambles, Cathedral Road and Edward Street area of the city and said that a number of youths have been “kicking in doors” late in the evenings.
The letter added: “They have been running into Sherry’s Field and sometimes out the Cathedral Road; CCTV is being checked and the police have been informed.
“The doors they kick in belong mostly to elderly folk, people who are sick and parents with young children. That lets you know how brave these youths are.”
Appealing to parents, the resident continued: “I would like to appeal to parents to check what their children have been up to at night. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
“There are people in Armagh who are very angry with what is happening. Teach them to have respect.
“Remember it doesn’t matter how smart your children are. If they don’t have respect they have nothing.”
Speaking on behalf of the Armagh Neighbourhood Policing Team, Inspector Kelly Moffett said: “Whilst local police have not received any reports of an increase in anti-social behaviour in the Shambles area, we do understand that anything that impacts on a community’s quality of life can cause concern.”
And, as such, the PSNI are urging for these incidents to be reported.
Continued Inspector Moffett: “We would encourage anyone who is experiencing anti-social behaviour or has information in relation to recent incidents, to please get in touch with us. Information is key to enabling us to dedicate our resources where they are needed most and respond to any crimes in progress.
“Officers will be on patrol in the area over coming days.”
