There has been a very serious road traffic collision outside Markethill overnight.
The collision, which is understood to have involved a number of vehicles, happened on the Gosford Road at around 1.30am.
Ambulance crews were on the scene. A number of people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The incident happened close to the Gosford Services Filling Station. A significant stretch of the road has been closed as a result.
Diversions are in place but please avoid the area if possible as the road will remain closed for a significant part of the morning.
Issuing an update this morning, a police spokesperson said: “Road users are reminded that the Gosford Road in Markethill is currently closed and will likely remain closed for some time due to a serious road traffic collision. Diversions are in place but please avoid the area if possible.
“Further details will be provided in due course.”
