St Malachy’s PS enjoy what could be ‘final’ St Patrick’s Day assembly in current premises

The principal explained all proceeds would go towards a family who recently tragically lost an infant and asked everyone remember all those who are sick and can't be with us

St Malachy’s Primary School Armagh held a very special St Patrick’s Day assembly for what may be the last year in their current premises on Chapel Lane.

Principal Mr Paul Duggan, began the assembly with a warm welcome to parents, grandparents and friends before thanking Mr McCusker and the P6 boys and girls for arranging the assembly.

As he addressed the audience, Mr Duggan spoke about the importance of ‘doing our best’, both in school and outside of school.

He also thanked Armagh manager, Kieran McGeeney for allowing the school to present the 2002 GAA All Stars trophy and wished the Armagh team good luck for tomorrow’s match at the Athletic Grounds.

Mr Duggan also took a moment to explain the historical significance of the school’s site stating: “During the planning for a new school we discovered that this was the site of St Brigid’s church in Armagh. The site of the school is historically very important so this is a particularly special occasion today.”

During the assembly Mr McCusker’s P6 class put on an incredible performance that included several themed songs accompanied by Mr McCusker on guitar, Irish dancing, a short play in honour of St Patrick and tin whistle instrumentals.

He finished the assembly by explaining that all proceeds would go towards a family who recently tragically lost an infant and asked those in attendance to remember all those who are sick and can’t be with us.

The school also provided small pots of shamrock for family members to take home.
