Temperatures are set to soar across Co Armagh today and tomorrow (Tuesday).
The mercury will reach 26 degrees, with parts of Ireland reaching an uncharacteristic 28 degrees.
The warm weather brought thunderstorms over the weekend, with Sunday a washout throughout the county. Organisers of an event on the Mall were forced to shut up shop early on Sunday due to the torrential downpours affecting festivities.
Nonetheless, 24 hours later and forecasters are predicting a scorcher with more to come – the hottest day of the year could come on Wednesday with parts of the UK set to bask in 34 degree heat.
Locally, it won’t be near that high as that with rain returning on Wednesday – and thunderstorms on Thursday.
For the next two days though, Met Éireann says the east of the country especially can look forward to basking in warm, sunny, summer weather.
“Temperatures will reach the mid-20s, particularly in the greater Dublin region, north Leinster and into east Ulster on Monday,” said forecaster Matthew Martin.
“We are looking at 25 degrees, 26 degrees – possibly up to 28 degrees in some areas.”
Monday will be warm and humid but slightly cooler in the coast along the west and south and it remain humid overnight.
The hottest July day ever is 36.7C (98F) – a record that looks unlikely to be beaten this week.
