Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Alderman Margaret Tinsley and Roger Wilson, Chief Executive welcomed The Lord Caine, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to The Palace, Armagh on Thursday for an update on the growth deal and future ambitions for the borough.
The Chief Executive highlighted the council’s strategic priorities, showcasing the borough’s strengths in key sectors to national and global markets and the strong potential for future investment, to build economic growth and create jobs.
During the visit The Lord Caine met Chair of the Economic Development and Regeneration Committee, Councillor Kevin Savage and Archbishop McDowell, taking in some of the city’s cultural landmarks.
He visited the Armagh Robinson Library and viewed some of the special collections on display including the original Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift, followed by a walking tour through St. Patrick’s COI Cathedral gardens.
The Lord Caine received an update on the multi-million-pound heritage-led regeneration scheme currently underway, a tour of the Gaol and an update on progressing plans to expand the F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio following the successful UK Government £3.6m Levelling Up Fund.
