Advertisements making the rounds on social media boasting a Wedding Fayre in the bucolic surrounds of Armagh’s Palace Stables has been confirmed as a scam, Armagh I can reveal.
The post – submitted to one of Armagh I‘s Facebook groups – was published under the name of a Dorothy Lewis, from what appeared to be a fake profile.
It was inviting traders to part with £60 for a pitch at the two day event, which was said to be scheduled to take place on May 16 and 17 from 10am to 4pm.
The post added: “We are looking for companies who would be interested in a pitch” and offered the benefit of exclusivity for traders with “only one company section so they’ll be no competition for more than one of the same type supplier!”
Clearly pushing for as many industry specialists to get involved as possible, it sought interest from those offering photography, cake, wedding cars, sweet treats, personalised items, invitations, hair, makeup, dresses, suits, florist, honeymoon and content creators.
To get involved, it gave the very vague entry option, “Shoot me a message on messenger if interested.”
Armagh I immediately contacted Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for clarity on the event.
A spokesperson for Council confirmed there was categorically no event of this type planned for the dates mentioned in the advertisement in the grounds of Palace Stables.
Traders would be urged to remain vigilant for similar scams and to check with Council directly before booking events if you have any concerns.
