Tributes paid to former St Patrick’s High School Keady science teacher Pat Daly

Warm tributes have been paid to Pat Daly, a former and much-loved science teacher at St Patrick’s High School, Keady, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, surrounded by his family.

Mr Daly, originally from Creggan, Carrickmore, and late of Armagh, was described as an exceptional educator, a gentleman, and a man who had a lasting impact on many pupils who passed through his classroom.

He was the beloved husband of Pat and loving father to Claire, Terry, Roisin and Brendan, and much-loved granda to Lorcan, Orlaith, Fionnuala, Conall, Lydia, Cara and Emmett. He is also survived by his brother John, sister-in-law Bernie, and sons- and daughters-in-law George, Eoin and Rebecca.

Mr Daly will repose at his home, 5 The Hermitage, Armagh, on Sunday and Monday from 12 noon. His funeral will take place on Tuesday at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh, with 11am Requiem Mass followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery. The house will be private on Tuesday morning.

The family has requested family flowers only, with all enquiries to J.J. McArdle & Sons, Thomas Street, Armagh.

Following news of his passing, former students and members of the community have taken to social media to express their sadness and share their memories of a respected and popular teacher.

One tribute read: “Sorry to hear this sad news. Mr Daly was a great chemistry teacher to us all in Keady High School. RIP.”

Another remembered him fondly as a teacher who never forgot his past pupils: “So sorry to hear this. Pat was the best teacher in Keady High School. Always knew you when you met him out and about. Rest easy, Mr Daly.”

A fellow past pupil added: “A great teacher and a gentleman. RIP Mr Daly.”

Many spoke of his warmth and the respect he carried long after retirement: “He was a great teacher and an absolute gentleman,” – a sentiment echoed by many who paid their tributes.

Mr Daly is very deeply regretted by his family and wide circle of friends.
