Vandals target Armagh Cricket Club equipment on The Mall – again!

Vandals targeted Armagh Cricket Club under the cover of darkness on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the Club is no stranger to wanton vandalism of its equipment – or clubhouse – on The Mall.

Sadly, the club’s hierarchy spent another Sunday morning picking up the pieces of a weekend rampage.

“It’s hugely disappointing and disheartening to arrive on the Mall this morning and find more overnight vandalism,” they wrote on Sunday.

Their new practice net was moved out of its roped off area, which appears to have been cut, and the net was pushed over, potentially causing major structural damage.

The Club continued: “This wouldn’t have been one person on their own or small children, so for people to go out of their way to do this on a Saturday night is a sad reflection on our society.

“We have notified the Police Armagh, Banbridge & Craigavon who will be making enquiries and collecting CCTV footage.

“If you know anything about this or who might be involved please let the police or us know.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police received a report on Sunday 17th November, in relation to criminal damage which occurred during the night at grounds located at the Mall in Armagh. It was reported that nets, frames and a crossbar were damaged during the incident.

“Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident, to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 698 17/11/24.”
