Police across the borough have taken more than a dozen reports today relating to one particular HMRC phone scam.
Fraudsters purporting to be from HMRC are plaguing residents across the borough this morning.
It follows on from a spate of similar complaints last week.
Posting on social media, a police spokesperson said: “We’ve had another spate of the HMRC scam calls today. Crews in ABC have dealt with upwards of 15 reports so far. No doubt that will rise.
“This seems to be a slightly different call from last week’s one, but follows the same idea, ‘You’ve done something wrong, you owe us money, you’re in trouble if you don’t phone this number’.”
“This time, one of the names on the automated message is an “Officer Neeson”.
“As the wise man himself once said: “I have a particular set of skills. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. I don’t know who you are, I don’t know what you want….but I will find you….and I will rip that scammy automated message sender machine out of the wall!”
“Please folks take some time with your elderly or vulnerable family, neighbours and friends.
“Warn them about this. No one, thankfully, has fallen for it today yet, however the first person who does will be out thousands.
“These people are vultures. They prey on the elderly. Don’t give them that chance. Act now.”
