Yet another careless dog walker has been lambasted by an Armagh city centre business owner for leaving “a trail of destruction” in their wake!
Armagh city’s Scotch Street and Barrack Street have been particularly plagued by dog foul for too many years to count, although the problem is pervasive across the high street… and its off-shoots too.
On March 24, however one business owner on Scotch Street was left aghast after watching a dog walker “drag” his dog along the street as it, quite clearly, emptied its bowels.
He claims no attempt was made by the owner to stop, pick up or even ask for a plastic bag to lift the foul mess.
The store owner – who wished to remain anonymous – said several members of the public even approached him afterwards to say they had also noticed the incident, branding it “disgusting”.
Himself and a member of staff had to then take buckets of water, in their own time and scrub the faeces from the pavement.
Sadly, when he returned to his premises the following morning, it was as if he was experiencing Deja vu… There was more!
Whether it was the same walker or not, he cannot say. Nonetheless, the problem persists and, like many shop owners, he has had enough.
The businessman called Environmental Health at Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council for assistance.
Unfortunately, they informed the trader that there is “very little they can do”.
Previously, the council informed Armagh I that wardens were being tasked to increase patrols of certain areas, including the Ardmore area of Armagh.
There are yellow enforcement notices placed around the city warning of possible fines for leaving waste behind… but these are clearly having little impact.
Armagh I contacted Council to see if there are any immediate plans to ramp up enforcement.
