Watch: Family ‘at a loss’ as to why masked men attacked their Armagh home with hammers

A family in Armagh say they have been left “at a loss” after their home on Windmill Avenue was twice attacked by masked men wielding hammers.

The property – home to a 69-year-old grandmother, her partner and her grandchild – was first targeted late last month when windows and the front door were smashed.

Despite checking CCTV from a nearby property, no footage was available as the cameras’ time settings were wrong.

However, the same house was targeted again in the early hours of Sunday morning (5 October) – and this time, the family had installed cameras of their own.

“We have a picture; we have footage of the two men,” said Nicole Sheridan who lives at the property with her grandmother.

“They are masked, but one of them – you can see his eyes and his nose. We just want it shared to see if anybody recognises them whatsoever.”

Nicole described the attackers as “young men” who “hopped the fence” before smashing the windows with hammers, as is clearly demonstrated in the footage, which was captured at 2.43am.

“My nanny has lived here 47 years and nothing like this has ever happened,” she said. “There’s no drama, no problems, no bad activity. It’s just… we don’t know. This is a personal attack, and we don’t know why or how or what is going on. My nanna is scared to be in her own home – it’s ridiculous.”

Neighbours have been helping the family review CCTV footage. One resident managed to capture the men running away down Navan Street after the attack.

Police have been contacted and the incident is being investigated.

Nicole added: “Somebody is bound to recognise them. You can see one of them’s build, his eyes, his nose – even his outfit. If it was your relative or somebody you knew, you’d know it was them.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 233 05/10/25.
