A tool bag valued at approximately £1,300 has been stolen after a van was broken into in Killylea in the early hours of this morning.
Police are investigating the incident as possibly being linked to the theft of a purse from a nearby car on the same night.
Around 8am this morning (Tuesday), police received a report that a van had been broken into in the Aughantarragh Road area.
Alongside the theft of the tool bag, a diesel cap had been opened, though it is unknown how much diesel has been taken at this time.
The second report was received at 12:40pm, which stated that a purse was stolen from a car parked outside a property in Esker Park.
Both thefts are believed to have occurred during the night.
Taking to social media this morning, the victim of the tool bag theft asked for people to remain vigilant and to call 101 if they had any information.
They managed to capture footage of the alleged thieves on their Blink doorbell camera (see main video).
They said: “In the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 22nd of August at 2.27am we have video and audio footage of two men coming onto our property on the Aughantarragh Road.
“They proceeded to steal valuable work tools from my fiancé’s work van and also try and pry open the diesel caps on our cars. They noticed one of the security cameras and ran, however, what they didn’t realise is that there is audio on the cameras and we are now aware one of these two men is called Ciaran/Kieran.
“Police have been informed, CSI are involved and CCTV has been taken.
“Everyone please be aware of these two cowardly men and if anyone has any information about this please contact 101.”
A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Police are investigating a possible link between both incidents and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anyone suspicious or anyone with CCTV, doorbell or other footage that could assist with enquiries, to contact them on 101 quoting reference 281 of 22/08/23.”
