What’s to become of the former SRC building on Lisanally Lane?

The old building has fallen out of productive use; standing empty, surrounded by metal fencing to keep trespassers at bay

Armagh’s new £35 million Southern Regional College (SRC) campus opened it’s doors on Lonsdale Road just over five years ago… and since then they have progressively phased out one of their old campuses on Lisanally Lane.

With the entirety of the further education college now vacated from the Lisanally site, the old building has fallen out of productive use; standing empty, surrounded by metal fencing to keep trespassers at bay.

There’s no denying that vacancy doth destroy the building. So, what’s to become of the fairly expansive redbrick premises?

In close proximity to Armagh city centre and the Lonsdale bus depot and with substantial car parking space to the front, the location could offer huge potential for redevelopment.

And, it would go without saying that having an organisation of any kind occupy the property would far outweigh any the negatives associated with leaving a building to decay.

Armagh I contacted Southern Regional College to find out what their plans were for the property.

A spokesperson for Southern Regional College said: “The College is presently preparing to dispose of this building.”

Perhaps a curt reply but nonetheless a positive step in the right direction!

Any developments in respect of the sale of the property will be published when made available.
