With the Northern Ireland Assembly Elections just days away, you asked us to pose the questions that matter to you.
Armagh I received numerous communications from you the readers.
You wanted us to put questions on key issues across Newry and Armagh to the main parties; questions on roads, health, broadband and local business among others.
We contacted candidates either directly or through their usual points of contact for press.
These were the DUP’s William Irwin, Ulster Unionists Sam Nicholson and Danny Kennedy, Justin McNulty of the SDLP, Sinn Fein’s Cathal Boylan and Independent and former MLA Paul Berry.
All were emailed on Friday morning (April 29) and given a deadline of Monday, May 2 to respond. All bar one (Sinn Fein’s Cathal Boylan) failed to acknowledge the offer.
Here is what we sent:
“Dear Candidates,
As one of the biggest online audiences across the Newry and Armagh district, we at Armagh I wish to offer each of the Assembly candidates a chance to chat to us (recorded phone call) ahead of polling day next Thursday.
“We would require a few minutes of your time to ask a number of questions. Please let us know by 5pm on Monday if you want to take us up on that offer to chat. If you do, just drop us an email with your number and a preferred time to call.”
