An Armagh woman who punched her female partner in the face after she prevented her from self-harming appeared in court this week.
The 31-year-old was before Magistrates’ on Tuesday charged with common assault on her partner at the time.
The incident took place around 2am on January 28, after police were called to the defendant’s home.
This call was made by a neighbour who was concerned the woman was self-harming with razor blades outside the front of the house.
Police arrived on the scene found that the defendant’s partner had been grabbed and punched in the face.
The court heard that she had lashed out at her ex-partner after they had tried to stop her self-harming.
When arrested, the defendant made no comment, but accepted all blame when interviewed the next day.
Defence counsel stated that “no serious injury had been caused”, adding that the defendant was “undergoing counselling for depression and was completely off alcohol”.
District Judge Paul Copeland pointed out that this was the defendant’s second case of violent conduct at this court and “both of which have featured alcohol”.
Judge Copeland ordered her to pay £250 compensation to the injured party within 20 weeks. He also handed her a conditional discharge for two years.
