Woman with history of shoplifting stole football and toy shark from Armagh store

Court heard she had 'a record for similar offences over the last 10 years or so'

An Armagh woman who stole a a football and a toy shark from a city store has been ordered to pay compensation and a £90 fine.

The 35-year-old’s barrister told court: “She has a record for similar offences over the last 10 years or so but I would ask your worship to deal with it today.”

Angela Cawley, of Mullacreevie Park, pleaded guilty to one count of theft at the city’s Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday via videolink from her solicitor’s office.

The particulars outline that on February 25, the defendant stole a football and a toy shark to the total value of £12.98 belonging to Home Bargains, Armagh.

District Judge Eamonn King asked if this had been a “shoplifting” offence.

This was confirmed by defence barrister Conor Coulter, who stated: “She has a record for similar offences over the last 10 years or so but I would ask your worship to deal with it today.”

Cawley was ordered to pay compensation of £12.98 and a fine of £90, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within eight weeks.
