A Dublin woman who was caught drink-driving in Armagh despite only holding a provisional licence has been fined £350 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
The case of Margaret McDonagh (43), of Rossfield Avenue, was heard at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry Courthouse on Tuesday.
The court heard that on Friday, October 27, police were alerted by a member of the public to a road traffic collision on the Friary Road in Armagh.
Upon speaking to the parties involved, police ascertained the driver of a Ford Fiesta had collided with the back of a Nissan Qashqai.
Whilst speaking to the defendant, the driver of the Fiesta, police could smell intoxicating liquor coming from her breath and her speech was slurred.
A breath test was requested which resulted in a fail. The defendant was then arrested and cautioned. It was discovered that she only had a provisional licence, was not displaying L plates and was not insured.
Whilst in custody she failed to provide an evidential sample of breath.
District Judge Anne Marshall imposed a total fine of £350, alongside the £15 offender levy, for the charges of driving whilst unfit, driving without insurance, driving without L plates and failing to provide a specimen of breath.
She was also banned from driving for a period of 12 months.
