Work has now started on repairing a collapsed bridge road on the outskirts of Armagh that has been causing “severe disruption” to the community.
The collapse of the Maydown Bridge and carriageway between Benburb and Tullysaran happened on October 2, forcing police to close the road in both directions as a safety measure.
The closure caused “severe disruption” to a vital link road between the county Tyrone and Armagh settlements.
However, works have now started to repair the road and reinstate the bridge, according to Sinn Féin MLA for Fermanagh & South Tyrone, Colm Gildernew.
Speaking about the construction, Mr Gildernew said: “Working today with Sinn Féin colleagues from both sides of the Blackwater and Department for Infrastructure officials to press for urgent reinstatement of the Maydown Bridge between Benburb and Tullysaran.

“This is a vital link in our community and severe disruption is being caused as a result of the collapse.
“I am pleased to see that work has now started.
“This is a complicated and major repair and will take some time to complete given the extent of work needed.
“Department officials have committed to prioritising this issue in light of the ongoing disruption for the community and the serious impact on local businesses.
“We will continue to work with all agencies to ensure work is completed as soon as possible.”
