One of Banbridge’s best‑known restaurants has announced it will close its doors later this year after almost two decades in business.
The Bronte Steakhouse & Grill, on the Loughbrickland Road, will serve its final customers on Sunday, November 22, 2026.
In an emotional statement on social media, the restaurant – run by Ian Clyde and family – said it had taken the “incredibly difficult decision” to shut after “nearly 20 wonderful and unforgettable years”.
They confirmed the property is now sale agreed, but said they would not be commenting on any future plans for the site.
“When we first took over, our son was just a toddler running around the restaurant, and he has grown up alongside it. So many special family memories are tied to this place,” they wrote.
“After years of working weekends, holidays and countless long hours, we feel now is the right time to close this chapter and begin something new.
“Although this decision is difficult, we’re also looking forward to a little more normality, some weekends back with our family and a fresh adventure for us all.”
The owners said they were “incredibly proud” of what they had built at Bronte and thanked both customers and staff.
“None of it would have been possible without our wonderful customers and team,” the post continued.
“Thank you for every visit, booking, celebration and special occasion, and for allowing us to be part of so many of your memories. We’re also deeply grateful to every member of our team, past and present, for their hard work, loyalty and support over the years.”
They added that the coming months “will be emotional”, but that they hope to welcome “plenty of familiar faces before we say our final goodbyes”.
The announcement has prompted a flood of messages from regulars, many speaking of “one last” visit before November.
“We all love the Bronte, and will see you all before Nov,” wrote one couple.
“Best of luck for the future and will see u all soon,” added another.
Others tagged family and friends to arrange farewell meals “for old time sake”.
Many simply wished the family well. “All the best for the family and future Ian,” wrote one woman, while another added: “All the very best Ian to you and the family.”
The restaurant will continue to operate as normal up to its final service on Sunday, November 22, 2026, but will not be accepting bookings beyond that date.
Customers with valid Bronte gift vouchers are being urged to get in touch to book a table “over the coming weeks”.
“Thank you for almost 20 amazing years of memories, support, friendship and loyalty,” the statement concluded. “Bronte has given our family so much, and we will always be incredibly grateful.”
