ABC Council has granted permission for the organisers of a fun fair to operate amusements on council property in Banbridge for a fortnight in June.
Council’s monthly meeting on Monda was told of a request from Bell’s Amusement Fun Fair to hire and trade on at Solitude Park from June 7 to June 21.
The report presented to councillors on the matter noted the request followed a successful, similar event that took place in Lurgan Park last August.
It also explained the company would like to hire the amphitheatre at Solitude Park to provide a fun fair type attraction for Banbridge and the wider area, which will operate from 5-9pm Monday – Friday and from 2-9pm on Saturday and Sunday in line with park opening hours.
Councillors were told this will be a commercial operation and assured that, with the operator charging per ride/game, all licensing requirements have been met and local residents notified.
Bell’s Amusements will pay a £1,200 returnable deposit for use of the site and the activity is expected to generate £108 per day of income for 13 days for the local authority. This is a total income of £1,404.
A recommendation was made by council officers for the operator to approve the request for Bell’s Amusements Fun Fair to hire and trade on council propert.
A proposal to approve the recommendation was put forward by Alderman Mark Baxter and seconded by Alderman Glenn Barr, with the chamber voicing its support.
