‘Culture in Park’ event to bring free day of music, dance and food from around world to ABC borough

'Suitable for people of all ages to enjoy, a mix of professional and amateur acts will set the stage alight and open the door to sounds and experiences that everyone can share together'

A special cultural celebration of music, dance and food from all over the world is expected to be held in Banbridge in March.

The event would be staged at Solitude Park, on Saturday, March 29, between 4pm and 7pm.

And it will coincide with Good Relations Week, permission to host the celebration being sought by Community Development.

ABC Council’s environment committee were asked on Tuesday night to approve the hosting of the unique celebration on its grounds, which it duly agreed to.

A report to committee stated: “Culture in the Park is an inclusive, family friendly outdoor event, celebrating the cultural heritage and diversity of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon borough through music, dance and performance.

“Suitable for people of all ages to enjoy, a mix of professional and amateur acts will set the stage alight and open the door to sounds and experiences that everyone can share together.

“This is a free outdoor event set in the beautiful surrounds of Solitude Park in Banbridge.

“As well as music and dance, there will be fun activities, face painting and of vendors selling a variety of food.”

The committee was being asked, as required under bye-laws, to grant consent and permit trading and musical entertainment relating to the cultural event being held in Solitude Park next month.

The request was proposed by Alliance councillor, Robbie Alexander and seconded by Sinn Féin councillor, Mary O’Dowd.
