Derelict Gilford eyesore to be redeveloped as hot food carry-out and apartments

The owners of the popular Mr Chips hot food takeaway are hoping to redevelop the vacant area next to their Mill Street premises

Mill Street Gilford

The owners of the popular Mr Chips hot food takeaway in Gilford are hoping to redevelop a derelict site next door to their Mill Street premises.

Alan and Kathy Convery have lodged proposals with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for consideration.

They currently run their business from 4 Mill Street.

And now they intend to bring the site adjacent and to the north of their takeaway business back into productive use.

It is intended to construct a three-storey development.

The ground floor will be developed as a commercial unit, incorporating a hot food carry-out.

And the two above floors would accommodate four new apartments.

Each would comprise two bedrooms, together with a bathroom and combined kitchen and living area.

According to the application the expansive earmarked site is a vacant and derelict former commercial premises which has not been in use for around a decade.

If approval is given to these proposals, it would help to rejuvenate the street and remove an eyesore which has long blighted the busy Co Down village.

The application is due to be advertised shortly.
