Funeral this week for dad who died in tragic swimming pool accident in Spain

David Hanna

The funeral of a man who died while on holiday in Spain last month is to take place this week.

Fifty-three-year-old David Hanna, from Ashleigh Meadows in Rathfriland, died after an incident at a hotel swimming pool on July 17.

Mr Hanna had been staying at the popular Globales Hotel in the resort of Palmanova, not far from Magaluf.

He had only arrived on the island that day. It is understood he had been taken from the water by lifeguards but died at the scene.

A funeral notice for Mr Hanna described him as a dearly loved father of Rachael, Sophie and Jake; a loving son of Beth and the late Billy; dear brother of Cheryl and her partner Lester; and Uncle to Gary and his wife Jane.

Funeral Service will take place in Bessbrook Presbyterian Church on Thursday, August 4 at 1.30pm followed by committal in Armagh Road Presbyterian Cemetery.

Family Flowers only please.

Donations if desired for The N.I. Air Ambulance C/O Robert J. Bready, Funeral Director, 22 Newry Road, Rathfriland, BT34 5AL.

Writing on at the time, his daughter Rachel said her heart “is in a million pieces”.

She wrote: “Yesterday on the first day of my dad’s well deserved holiday in Majorca, he passed away due to a tragic accident.

“Sophie, Jake and I’s hearts are completely broken. We couldn’t have asked for a better dad and best friend rolled into one. Anyone who knew my dad knows how amazing he truly was and he will be missed by so many.”
